Great Works of Art & Faith

Recently we came upon a very interesting article written by The Herald Malaysia Online. This well thought out article entitled "How the great works of religious art help our faith," explores just how important it is for your church to invest in inspiring art. Throughout history, art has played an important role in Christianity, and today it should be no different.

Art can a unique advantage in a church setting. Consider a first time visitor to a church. Perhaps they feel uncomfortable and alienated. Being new in a church when you don't know anyone can be a little bit overwhelming. Art can communicate to this new visitor what the church is all about. It can be welcoming and help a visitor to explore their faith. Good Christian art can be felt instead of merely being seen.

Consider what the author, a pastor of a church say about how placing good art in their church has reached out to non-believers.

"One of the most interesting things is the number of people of other religions and no religion who come to just spend time in the church. They say being there makes them feel better."

Of course Fine Art reproductions, like those sold at Tapestry do require an investment. However, every person that sees a painting in a church as the opportunity to experience, and possibly begin a relationship with Christ. When we look at Christian art in this sense, it should be made a priority.
