"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, and he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26 KJV
There must be a good reason why Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as a “Comforter” and why today we call a quilted blanket by the same name. Just like a blanket, this third part of the Trinity wraps itself around us, keeping us secure and warm, free of fear and full of peace. The Holy Spirit constantly reminds us of God’s presence and that His arms are around us, embracing and protecting us. In today’s world, freedom from fear is needed more than ever – how we need the Holy Spirit!
The idea for this painting came through my wife, who I often see wrapped up on a cold night in a chair or on the couch. She always looks (for the moment anyway!) like she hasn’t a care in the world. If we could only be like that in our spiritual lives more often! And like the woman in the painting who is reaching out to receive this great gift, we also must do our part by asking for the Holy Spirit.
Do you remember when you asked for it? If you have, I pray that this painting will constantly remind you of your own infilling of the Spirit.
