SYNOPSIS:

Throughout the ages, there have been a select few who sat still long enough to hear the still, small voice of God. One of these few was a young girl from Domremy, France during the Middle Ages. As would probably be the case today, she was poorly received when she claimed to hear directly from God. Nevertheless, she spent her life in obedience to His voice, which eventually led to her legendary martyrdom. In Joan of Arc, DiCianni shows that though those on earth meant for her to suffer as she was burned, the prize she received as her soul was cradled to Heaven far outweighed the price she paid. Joan of Arc serves as a reminder to viewers that serving Christ is not always easy and can come with a price.

ARTIST NOTE:

While the historical accounts usually deal with the battles she fought and the way she valiantly led men as a seasoned warrior, I chose to concentrate on the true reason for her martyrdom at 19 years of age. The cross in her hands identifies that, like Jesus and so many others who have refused to recant the name of Christ, her obedience to the voice of God led to death.
