SYNOPSIS:

Although Jesus was fully God, He was also fully man. We of course often think that because Jesus was God, He was immune to the practical things that can sometimes cause sadness, like leaving home. Many of us have had children leave home while all of us, at one time or another, have left the home of our parents’ or guardians’. Here in Leaving Home, Ron DiCianni poignantly captures the emotions of Jesus and Joseph as they say goodbye to each other.

ARTIST NOTE:

When my first son went off to college, I didn’t realize the impact of what had happened until my wife and I came home from dropping him off. After taking a few steps through the door, I reminded myself to turn around and lock it because he wasn’t coming home. That’s when it hit me and the tears flowed.

Is it possible that Joseph and Jesus had a parting moment that was incredibly emotional for both of them? Is it possible Jesus wished He could have stayed longer with His dad? And is it possible that Joseph knew some of what lay ahead for his Savior Son that made his heart break to let Him go?

This is not a theological painting. It is a painting done by a father about what a dad goes through to let his child go.
