A Roman governor asked one of the most important questions in the history of mankind. He asked of Jesus in Matthew 27:11, “Are you the King…?” As Jesus stood before Pilate that day, His answer was, “It is as you say.”
Throughout history and even today, the Truth still remains on trial. The question has been asked countless times, “Was Jesus who He claimed to be – the Son of God?” The Judging of Jesus spectacularly illustrates Jesus on trial in today’s world. Jesus, beaten and bloody, stands before a modern day judge waiting for a verdict. But the miracle is that no ruling of any court on this earth can change the Truth because it is ordained by the One to whom every knee must bow, the Lord God.
Man has continued to argue the very same question of Christ’s Lordship to this day. As the ages have rolled on, every twist imaginable has been put on the subject in order to duck the question…and the answer.
Regardless of which spin you choose, Jesus remains the King. Not because I believe it or my church believes it, but because He proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt through His resurrection from the dead. Know any one else who can claim that? Neither do I.
Still, the world has decided to put Christ back on the witness stand. He is being tried anew on most television programs, in the media and through philosophical debates throughout the world. Sadly, the conclusion of many is not that He is not King, as much as He is not their King. This brings us back to the first question. You must now answer it for yourself. Put Him on trial if you will, but remember the Truth is not subject to popular belief nor can it be changed by a majority vote.
Now you stand in Pilate’s place. It’s time for you to vote. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father, but through Me” (John 14:6). What have you chosen to believe?
