Widow's Mite

SYNOPSIS:

Have you ever given your offering on a Sunday morning and wished it were more? Or heard a missionary appeal and thought, “Lord, I wish I could meet this need?” Jesus put it all in perspective one day while He was in the temple watching the people put in their offerings. He was touched not by the large amounts given, but by the heart of a woman who gave all she had. Ron DiCianni’s portrayal of that moment in Luke 21:1-4 uses his trademark signature of blending the ancient with the contemporary while showing the contrast between the amount of the offering and the amount of sacrifice the offering displayed.

ARTIST NOTE:

We are told that “God loves a cheerful giver,” not necessarily a wealthy one! The size of our love and devotion seems to be more important to God than the size of the offering we give. After all, He doesn’t need our money. But He does want (and deserve) our love. One can’t help but give all if love is behind it.

I never want to be guilty of the haunting statement in Malachi 1:8,

“When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn’t that wrong? And isn’t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased? Try giving that to your Governor, and see how pleased he is!” says the Lord Almighty.”

I think I’ll pass on that when it comes to God.
