What is a Fine Art Reproduction?
Over the years, references to paper prints, lithographs, canvas prints and the like have become confusing so the term “Fine Art Reproductions” encompasses all of these. Fine Art Reproductions are high-quality handcrafted replicas of original works of art that are made with excellence and adherence to a high standard of quality. In talking about Fine Art Reproductions, there are several kinds, styles, editions and formats; these are covered below.
Paper: A Paper Fine Art Reproduction is a reproduction that is expertly printed to Archival Paper. This requires special printing presses and high end, PH balanced paper to ensure the longevity and color fidelity of the reproduction. There are a very limited number of printers capable of printing on paper to the Fine Art Standard. Paper reproductions need to be matted and glassed before being framed.
Canvas: A canvas reproduction captures all of the color fidelity of the original piece while offering a “textured” surface similar to the look and feel of the original painting.
Giclee: Giclee is a French term meaning “spraying of ink.” Printing directly from information obtained from the original painting, specialized printers spray microscopic drops of color on to a fine art canvas. Displaying the full color spectrum, giclees have vibrant colors and a velvety texture. Giclees represent the highest commercially produced level of fine art reproductions. All of Tapestry Productions Canvas reproductions meet or exceed the “giclee” definition. At Tapestry, we specifically use the word “giclee” to denote a superior type of reproduction that has received some extra enhancements not found with our normal canvas line. These include additional special coatings for longevity, upgraded stretcher bars, different DPI counts and other embellishments.
Why buy a Fine Art Reproduction?
The goal of every piece we create is to visually communicate the Message of Christ and we hope that is the reason you want to invite our prints into your home, church, office or school.
Many people buy Fine Art Reproductions as a collectible or as an investment and while that is a great reason, the best reason to buy one of these beautiful Fine Art Reproductions is not for its special edition type but because the message of the piece speaks to you and conveys a message that you want to hang in your home or give as a gift. At Tapestry, our goal is that these reproductions will so faithfully echo the original painting and will speak its message to you so powerfully that you will want to bring one into your home so that it will serve as a daily reminder of God’s love and His message to all of humanity.
What does “SNLE” stand for?
SNLE stands for Signed, Numbered and Limited Edition. Fine Art Reproductions that have this designation have been Signed by the artist, have a Number showing their place in the edition and are part of a Limited number of prints that were created in a particular edition. Many print editions will have one or more of these designators but having all three in an SNLE is the most exclusive type of readily available edition. The only editions more prestigious and rare are Proof Editions (such as an Artist’s Proof Edition).
Will Fine Art Reproductions Increase in Value?
Because of the great production process God has blessed us with, it is expected that your print will likely last for many decades. As such there is a good chance that it might appreciate in value. The value of any print is unpredictable and is based upon the public’s demand for a particular image. When a print is “sold out” or an edition is closed, the value of a reproduction may increase if additional people still desire to purchase it. However, any artwork should be purchased because you love the image and want to enjoy it everyday. If a print increases in value, then you’ll have an added bonus. Many of the artist’s represented by Tapestry have seen their reproductions increase dramatically in value once the edition has closed.
How do the prints from Tapestry come to me?
For our Paper reproductions, they come either flat or rolled in a tube ready to be matted and framed.
For our Canvas reproductions, you have 3 options: UnStretched (this is the default option), Stretched and Framed. An unstretched canvas is a fully finished canvas that is ready to be stretched then framed. A Stretched canvas is one that has already been stretched and is read to drop into a frame. A framed canvas is ready to hang on your wall, the day it arrives!
How will my order come and when will it come?
Here at Tapestry, we pride ourselves on the fact that every canvas reproduction is made by the hands of our master craftsmen here in the USA. We print, coat, cut, stretch, join, frame and finish all of the pieces right here. No big fancy automated machines. Our prints are stretched by hand, our frames are assembled at the hands of a craftsman with years of experience. But that takes time! How much? Anywhere between 2-6 weeks depending on the time of year. So, please be patient! If you need your order sooner, RUSH shipping is available at an additional cost after your order has been placed online. All orders are shipped best available ground shipping through the carrier of our choice, based on your zip code and order. For orders placed via our website, your card will be charged when you place your order.
How do I get permission to use one of Ron DiCianni’s images?
So glad you asked! Ron loves having folks use his images as part of their website, church services, community outreaches or in licensed products (books, derivatives, etc). But, with very rare exceptions, you do need to receive permission before you use his work. We’re glad to help! In fact, we have a dedicated email set up just for that purpose. Send your request to Usage<@>tapprod.com (take the <>‘s out first) and tell us: Your name, contact info, the image you want to use and how you want to use it. One of our Image Usage team members will review the request and respond in 2-5 business days!
Is Ron available to speak at my event?
Possibly! Ron does have a very tight schedule that we prioritize by event type, distance and audience size but he regularly speaks to groups small and large alike. Feel free to email our Talent Management folks at Talent<@>tapprod.com (take the <>‘s out first) with the details of your event!
